Question 3: Personal Observation

Film is a form of art that looks to engage the viewer and draw them into another time and place. Would you recommend the film (that your work is based on) to others? What about this particular film inspired you? Is there any part of this film that made you think differently than you did before you saw it?

  1. I would recommend "Escape to Victory" to everyone. Although a lot of the details were made up in order to entertain the audience, the way characters were portrayed inspired me. The main reason why I chose this movie was because of the title and I was intrigued to see if the production would show me how people escaped. I was not disappointed and was eager to find different ways people could escape the war.

  2. I would definitely recommend the film to others! The movie was just so realistic and even though it is all in German, it made cry and want to learn more. My movie gave me an idea of what war really is. The entire movie made me think differently. I heard it was bloody but the movie really gave me an idea of war.

  3. The movie The Sound of Music doesn't dwell to much on WW II but I would totally recommend it to someone. The music inspired me. I have done several art pieces from being inspired by the music. I saw that music is something that can help you when you are down.

  4. I would recommend The Bridge on the River Kwai. The beginning is a little slow which kind of turned me off to it when I first watched it, but it becomes incredible as the movie goes on. The ending is what blew me away when I first watched it.

  5. Yes, I would recommend watching the movie The Keep because it touches on a lot of the issues that were happening during the World War II and Cold War years.

  6. I woud recommend the movie The Memphis Belle. In the movie it started off with a dance that was just a formal way of saying goodbye. This part gave a little happiness and fun to the film which I liked, (there was also singing which was really good too). In the film the 10 soldiers were in the plane the whole time which really gave you a feeling for what it was like. The acting was great, the directing, costumes, everything. So yes I would recommend this movie to anyone and everyone!

  7. I would absolutely recommend "Windtalkers" because it is one of the best WWII movies I've ever seen. What inspired me in the movie is one battle scene where there are Marines outnumbered and surrounded by the enemy. They want to retreat but their captain tells them no and that they must fight. This inspired me because you should never backdown from a fight. The battle scenes of the movie made me realize how deadly and hard the war was with Japan.

  8. I would recommend How I Won The War. Though it makes light of a serious topic at times, comedy is a good way to spread awareness about a subject. Though there is barely any factual information regarding WWII, the viewer may want to learn more about the topic itself after seeing the movie.

  9. I do recommend the Big Red One because overall it was a great film. It was at first a little confusing but as it goes on it becomes more understandable. The thing that particularly inspired me about this movie was how real and accurate it was to what really happened. The part of the film that blew me away was the ending because it was a little bit confusing the first time I watched it.

  10. I will definitely recommend As Far As My Feet Will Carry Me. I think what inspired me most was that it was from the notorious German pov. What blew me away was actually thinking to myself was, " Wow, there were concentration camps out there that are not only by Germans."

  11. I would recommend "Ivan's Childhood" to anyone. This film inspired me because it, though it was fiction, it represented the events of World War II so well, which gave me more insight as to what the war would've been like. This definitely made me think differently about World War II.

  12. I would not recommend if the person wanted to watch a movie about World War II but if the person wanted a romantic movie than yes. Honestly the movie The Last Metro did not inspire me at all and had barely anything to do about World War II

  13. I would definitely recommend my movie "The Attack on Leningrad" to everyone. The character dynamics and realness really inspired me. I also always thought that only the people in the war were affected. But, that is far from true. My movie mostly focused on the large population not in the war but experiencing the hardships of it. It was just as hard for them as it was for the men fighting and it took watching this movie to realize that.

  14. I would absolutely recommend my movie to other people. It was incredibly inspiring and in such a unique way. The story was told completely from the perspective of death itself, and that makes the narration throughout both haunting and intriguing. The characters are complex and well written, and because the main character is a child, there is a certain innocence and naivety in the way that she sees the world in the beginning, we see that change as the story progresses. This film definitely made me see children during the war in a completely different way, as the things they witnessed and experienced was something so unbelievably scarring and life changing on a magnitude I will never understand.

  15. I would recommend Letters from Iwo Jima to others. This film was extremely interesting to me. The Japanese fighting style and honor code inspire me to learn more about it. The Japanese have a certain presence and determination to them. When the Japanese started killing themselves in the film, I started to think differently about the battle and the war. People would do anything to honor their countries. They’re all putting their whole life on the line to protect other people that they don’t even know.

  16. I would recommend my film for others to watch because it inspired me with the bravery, ethics and compassion that Rommel showed. Rommel was talked about with respect even by his enemies, like Churchill. The movie inspired me to be grateful for what I have and how much freedom we have in the world today compared to back then. The part where you understand that Rommel will take the pill that will kill him, to save his family is also an inspiration of love and unselfish behavior. Watching Rommel stop the German soldiers from killing the British soldiers of war taught me that even though the British soldiers were there to stop Germany and Rommel from winning the war, Rommel saw them as people, not as enemies. He taught me to think that even when people are your enemy, you can treat them well.

  17. Well DUH! THIS IS A PIECE OF HISTORY! Really, any movie about world War II is a film to recommend, but my movie is specifically about fighting in war. The part that inspired me was the 5 of the airmen were receiving their badges, stating that they have transferred from lieutenant to sergeants, an official airmen. Something that made me think differently before I saw it was the scene when the mean white sergeant was treating his own lieutenants like they were wild animals, I mean, I realize you're supposed to be hard on them, but my good lord, that was just too much.

  18. Art is an enjoyable form of entertainment that can take you back to the past to learn about it. I would most definitely recommend my film to others because it informs people about the past in an enjoyable way. This film inspired me because it showed true leaders, which we rarely see today. Being a leader isn’t bossing people around, but is offering advice to people to try to keep them healthy and safe. This movie showed this type of leadership and inspired me to be this type of leader. This film makes me think differently about the world all together. Today we are lucky and don’t have to constantly be scared for our lives because of the religion we pursue or our heritage. Today our problems, in my opinion, are much smaller. This movie made me appreciate the world and my life because I can pursue my religion without being scared for my life and we as people of the U.S. can be proud of our heritage!

  19. I definitely encourage others to watch A Bridge Too Far. It is an intriguing piece that very accurately replicates the story of Operation Market Garden. I would encourage future audience members to do a little research on the operation before watching so that it is easier to follow along and take in the humor of the movie without trying to figure out what's going on the whole time! I found it very inspiring that the troops constantly battled onward, knowing that they may die any second with the constant bombs and machine guns targeting their every move. This encourages me to persist in my goals knowing that men have died in order for me to have rights and a fruitful future living in America. This film has made me think about the U.S. military in a whole new way. They are not only powerful and courageous, but they fight with love for their nation and are willing to risk their own lives for the millions of live living in the United States today.

  20. I would recommend the film Flowers of The War but only if you research about the Nanking Massacre a little before watching it. Unless you enjoy scary surprises. Since, while watching the film I was shocked, disgusted and traumatize by all the horror that was being done. Although there were scenes that were very inspiring of how prostitutes with "no heart" would martyr their bodies for schoolgirls. Before I saw this movie I really didn't feel anything about Japanese people. But now I just feel sorrow and a little resentment of how they treated the Chines even though I know not everyone is like that and even the Chinese did similar things to the Japanese. But I think that is what the objected of the film was. Which I was convinced a little.

  21. i would recommend the film Fury because it is so inspiring. Watching this movie about an untrained, unqualified kid who is thrown into war, and against all odds, comes out with his life is, in so many ways, truly amazing.

  22. I definitely recommend Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence to anyone looking for a more humorous WW2 film. While it doesn't give much information on the actual war, it did succeed in helping me to better understand what the average day in a Japanese Prisoner of War camp was like. My absolute favorite moment in the movie, as well as the most inspirational one, was when Jack Celliers completely disregards Captain Yonoi's fasting order, and rebels against the imprisoned fate that has chosen him.

  23. I would definitely recommend the movie "Europa, Europa" to other people for many reasons. My first reason is, the movie is in a different language which means you can't look away from the television during the whole movie. I really enjoyed this about the movie because I got to see what it is like for people in other countries to watch movies in english. I do see WWll differently from a Jewish point of view now that i have seen this movie.

  24. I would most definitely recommend this movie to others. The movie was very well put together. The director did a good job of showing how life was in the concentration camps, such as when the group of men were hung for trying to escape. This part was very heart wrenching but this was something that would actually happen to anyone that would try to escape. I also liked the casting choices. I had a pretty good knowledge of what happened when Hitler was in power, but after watching the movie I got a deeper understanding of what happened in the camps. The slumber bunks was something new for me how cramped they were and how many people they would try to fit in these small areas. Another new fact was just how heartless the officers in the camp were. There was a scene in the movie where Hannah was shoveling with Rivkah and an officer came up behind her and put a gun up to her head without a second guess he was about to shoot her until Rivkah spoke up and said that would be a bad idea. This movie gave me a new outlook on what the Jews went through.

  25. I highly recommend 'Millions Like Us' to everyone. Being that it was made during the time of WW2, gives a feel of what it was truly like in the world of factory women. What really inspired me about the movie, was the empowerment of women, and some things that people do to find solace in frightening times. From watching the film, I can say that I think about the empowerment of women differently than I ever have. My topic of women working in factories, actually wasn't as familiar to me, and was really intriguing. Millions Like Us is the perfect movie to watch to understand things that happened other than the violence in the war, and women sort of taking their place in society, and being successful.

  26. I would only recommend this film to certain people due to it's incredibly graphic content. While this movie is difficult to watch, it really shows a raw picture of the lives of sonderkommandos. Also, many other holocaust movies are very romanticized but this one tries to display a brutally honest story of events. This film reaffirmed the absolute horror of the Holocaust.

  28. I would recommend "The Guns of Navarone" to someone although there was violence it was a very interesting story that people can really enjoy. What inspired me the most is that through out the entire movie there General was injured and they carried him most off the way through mountains and continued to take care of him. To me that was very courageous they had so much love for someone on there team they would rather risk there lives for him rather than to leave him for the birds. I now think differently on how kind and caring people were during the war. Even with the amount of stress that had to deal with they still managed to be kind.

  30. I would DEFINETLY recommend this movie to a friend. It is amazing. This film really inspired me to want to learn about my grandfather's war stories. It really changed my view on what war was like then. I never knew war could be so horrendous. You could get shot and not immediately die. You would have to wait. You could watch your brother and your friends die. You could be a sole survivor. There was blood everywhere. This movie was very accurate in depicting war.

  32. I would definitely recommend my film "From Here to Eternity". This film mostly inspired me by the main character's perseverance and caring loyalty to his friends, and the film actually gives the men accurate feelings and back stories (Plus, Prewitt, the main character, was a really good Bugle Player). The film didn't really make me think differently though, as technically it takes place just before the war and the movie is not that dramatic (in terms of the war); although it did renew my interest in swing music and my own instrument.

  33. I would recommend the movie " Miracle at St. Anna " to anyone. I really enjoyed this movie. What inspired me was how realistic the movie was and also the way the characters were portrayed. I don't really think my movie portrayed the war aspect very well like with the bombs and things of that nature. The movie didn't really make me think any different about World War II the movie was just very emotional.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I would recommend my movie "Das Boot to every body. It has an unusual plot line and show a realistic aspect of the war. I was inspired by how human all the characters were. They were all just scared boys who didn't quite know what they were fighting for besides that fact that their country said it was good. This film made me think very differently about the Germans. I feel much more sympathetic for them. They suffered the same that we did and they were only following orders.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I would recommend "Empire of the Sun" to anybody. Since the novel it is based on is semi-autobiographic, the author definitely had an accurate perspective about what it was like to live in an internment camp. The film really showed me how harsh the conditions were in the camps.

  36. I think I would recommend Lore, predominantly on the behalf that its showing not just orphan children, but Nazi orphan children, and how they survived, the sort of obstacles (ex: in Lore, one of the main recurring events was sexual predation and sexual advancements made around, and, even on, Lore) they had to face. That was a big factor I learned the most about in this movie. It's really true to what wouldve happened. There wouldve been a lot of stress and disagreements, or complaining between the younger to older siblings. and it showed that considerably in this film. It might just be me, but without that little aspect, It wouldnt be inspiring.

  37. If you dont know much about the Red Tails and who they are, I would recommend the film "Red Tails." It provides a good idea of what they faced as a group and a good sense of how they got through the war. Though, the film does lack detail that would be helpful to really have an understanding of who they were. This flim just gives an idea of who they were. But I did learn some things through the movie that I didn't learn in research.

  38. I would highly recommend Days Of Glory to anyone who loves fighting but a dash of romance as well. This movie inspired me to follow anything i believe in. That not only gender but any ethnicity can do anything any other person can do. Before watching this movie I sort of didnt understand how badly women were discriminated from the things that men do and still are. Also learned how willing women were at getting what they deserved and how strong women actually can be.

  39. Recommending 1963's film "The Great Escape" to others is a "for sure" in my opinion. The movie offers the perfect amount of charm, elegance, and excellence to anyone in the need for a good movie. Filled with history and action, it appeals to a very broad audience. Not only is it a classic, but it's interesting to see, making it a top recommendation on my list. What inspired me about this film was the 1960 film style. The saturated picture, and acting made it a true piece of art. And after seeing the movie I began thinking differently on how Americans and the British were treated in POW camps, and what they did to escape their captors.

  40. I would recommend Saints and Soldiers to others because it’s a story of survival and working with what life has thrown at you. I usually don’t watch films about World War II, but Saints and Soldiers not only showed what it was like to go through a war but also how it affected the soldiers’ minds. The beginning of the film had lots of shooting and death, so at first I thought I wouldn’t like it. Later on in the film the story follows these men and shows what they’re going through, both physically and mentally. After watching it, I enjoyed it more because it wasn’t only about death and the war, but about how the war can change you mentally.

  41. I would recommend the film "The flags of our Fathers", for entertainment but not for education. There wasn't that many things in the film that inspired me but there were many things that I saw that gave me a good reminder. Often times when we think of WWII, we don't think of the personal struggles of the men and women who served back in this time period. A good example of a common struggle for minorities back in this time was segregation. Another reminder this film gave me was the reason for why people would involuntarily join the military to fight, and why I might join. The legendary scene of the flag raising would help others see that they fought for something greater than themselves. To simply explain this they didn't fight for just the U.S flag, but they fought for what it stands for.

  42. I would most definitely recommend the film, Jakob the Liar, to others. It was an extremely heartwarming movie that inspired me to want to help others more and be there for them. Jakob the Liar really helped me understand the pain and the destitution that the Jewish people went through. Nothing could ever make up for the sorrow and the devastation that they faced. Before I watched the film, I thought that it would be really boring and I wouldn't connect to it at all. After watching it, I can surely say that I was wrong. I would certainly watch Jakob the Liar again.

  43. I do Seriously recommend my film "Days Of Glory, 2006" to others. It really opened my eyes to what these soldiers went through. Before watching this movie, I blew off situations that dealt with soldiers. I would always say to myself "well it was their choice to fight". But I was totally wrong. These soldiers were forced away from their family's to go have a 89% chance of dying the next day. All of this inspired me, because they never gave up. They knew this was something they had to do. They were so very strong. And this movie right here lets you see that very clearly, no matter how many elements were added. This movie told the cold blooded truth about what it was REALLY like to be a soldier, and I value that.

  44. No I wouldn't recommend my movie. It was very boring and did not draw me in like a movie should. Yes it gave factual information and did have some entertaining moments. But it just seemed like it kept repeating itself, like a gaint loop. The qualities they gave to characters inspired me and made the movie more watchable. After watching the movie it barley showed me anything different. It gave me some idea of what it was like during the trials; but it did not captivate the big picture. But your opinion might differ from mine.

  45. The topic of the French Resistance is in and of itself fascinating. The ponderous mood and grim tone of every scene made the film intriguing. Additionally, the accuracy of the plot made it a reliable source of information, while also being engaging. Perhaps the most surprising aspect of this film was the brutality with which the main characters acted. During the time that the resistance was most active, a friend could easily become an enemy and someone who you saw just yesterday could disappear in the flash of a second. The film captured the wariness that anyone even remotely against the government had to have as well as the secrecy. There is a scene near the beginning of the film during which a man is strangled after divulging the name of a resistance worker while being tortured. To imagine the commitment that that act took is almost sickening, but it has altered my views on immersing oneself completely in a belief. In any case, my recommendation still stands concerning the film Army of Shadows. It’s an indelible piece of art that will shift some, if not many, of your personal principles.

  46. ''A Man Called Sarge'' is a fun little movie considering it is a comedy of ww2. I would recommend it just because its something that I wouldn't really expect a war movie to be. It came to a surprise that it made me smile a few times, and it brightened up the mood. But I wouldn't really say it inspired me.

  47. I would definitely recommend this film to others! No matter if it was a newer film produced today, or a older film produced in the 1800's. This film inspired me so so much. Louis is a man that I strive to be like. He was going down the wrong path as a child, and immediately turned it all around. Him living through the experiences that he had to face, looked incredibly small. But he did it, he lived through it all. He kept hope and he lived. He was faced with a cruel murderer, and he lived through it with his braveness. I hope to have braveness like that one day, even though I will most likely never endure a experience like that. Before seeing Unbroken, I didn't think that the men fighting for us in the air, had it as bad as they did and it was so much worse. I never really knew how bad POW's had it. I thought they were just held captive, and couldn't say anything. That was so far from the truth. They were beaten, worked, verbally abused, starved, and etc, It made me cry right when i saw that this was a true story. I thought that this was just a movie that had been juiced up to make it more interesting. But men actually had been treated like this.

  48. I would recommend " The Last Drop " to people who like action movies but not to anyone for learning about World War II. There wasn't a lot of things that were true in the movie. I was inspired by how the the main characters continued with their operation even though things looked bad for them since the beginning. Nothing in the movie made me think differently than I did before i saw it.

  49. I highly recommend the movie, “The Tin Drum”. It is a bit strange at times, but nonetheless it is an extraordinary piece of art. The film brings together a time in history with surrealistic black comedy. Its theme is chaotic and the film is quite graphic, but everything is captured and nothing is overdone. I was actually inspired greatly by the film. After watching it, I began to aspire to have the main character, Oskar’s courage. He was able to stand up and show his dislike for a country that he did not agree with. He made a difference, no matter the size, which made me think about the differences that others have made that aren’t “big enough” to be known.

  50. I would recommend Black Book to others who are older and mature. I was inspired by this film, because I have never seen a film about the Dutch resistance, and learned a lot about their perseverance for freedom. This film made me think differently because it was a different example of the effects the war had on other countries. It makes me wonder, what other movies were inspired from other countries around the world.

  51. Considering 'The Pianist' was nominated for over 50 awards and won many of them including an Oscar and a Palme d'Or (and it greatly deserved them), I would say it's a pretty good film. The main character's life (what the film was based on) really touched me because it was a true story and it was about how he lost everything in the war except his music. Also, before i watched this movie I thought Jewish celebrities were excluded form Hitler's schemes, but they were not 'surprisingly, they were treated slightly better but definitely not excluded.

  52. I would recommend the film I used for this project, Monuments Men to others. This film inspired me because I love art and I thought it was so amazing that this group of men risked their lives through war to save art even though most other people told them they shouldn't. After watching the movie I felt like I could somewhat relate to the horrific events of WWII even though I never experienced anything nearly as horrible. Before I couldn't really grasp any part of the war but now I have something to relate to the war to some extent.

  53. I would recommend the movie Into the Storm to others. The way people came together to get through the hard times inspired me. Another thing that inspired me was no matter how bad the war got they persevered and kept going. My thoughts about it did not change from the beginning of the movie because of previous things I had been told but it is good to hear someones side of the story.

  54. I would totally recommend this film because it was a heart touching story about a father who would do anything to make his family safe and happy in the concentration camps. It was full of comedy and love which made the movie pleasing even if it was about a concentration camp. There was not anything that made me think different than before, the movie was pretty accurate just with a touch of humor but the same conditions in the camp that I learned before watching the film.

  55. I would definitely recommend the movie The Longest Day not only to give information on the events that took place on D-day, but also as a movie to watch for fun. In this movie it has action and adventure and truly brought the events that happened on D-day to life in the viewers eyes. This movie will take the viewer on the journey of deciding whether D-day will actually happen and ending with American soldiers on the beach. Also this movie will give you the different countries views on Normandy. This film made me think differently of what the soldiers did in every aspect of D-day. Like the preparation for D-day, during, and after.

  56. I would recommend the film, "To Have and Have Not" to people looking for a captivating example of film work from the 1940s era. The film in it's essence has a beautiful plot line and story that would leave you intrigued, but as a source on information for the events in Vichy France, I think this is where it falls short. I think there could be more accurate representations of the events of my topic in the movie in other documentaries or films. But for what the film is, which is a capturing story of adventure and romance, I think it could get anyone on board. I do think the film would appeal to wide array of ages and tastes.

  57. I would recommend the film " Grace of the Fireflies" to others because it is a very heartfelt story, an anime, and is for children audiences, yet not too immature. What inspired me about this film was how it teaches you to always stay positive, and always keep your hopes and your loved ones near, especially in times of need. The part of the film that made me think differently after watching it was when the little sister dies. Because they had gone through so much together, and she was so young and so important to the story, that you wouldn't have expected that to have happened. I guess it was supposed to show a little bit of insight of how terrible it was to lose the ones that you love during a war.

  58. I would recommend "The Counterfeiters" to people are interested in the holocaust and operation Bernhard. Since that's all the film is about. For those who don't know operation Bernhard was the biggest counterfeiting operation to ever happen. This film really inspired me to see what happened on the British side as this whole thing was boing on. I never even knew what operation Bernhard was until I watched my film. This film made me think much differently then I did before I saw it because I didn't really know what it was about. While watching it I thought the movie was very realistic and that everything portrayed in the movie actually really happened. But after going more into the research on it I found out that it was completely fake. That was a big surprise to me.

  59. I would definitely recommend the film "Ashes and Diamonds" to other people, as it s recommended to me. It was a very popular Polish film and has a well- recognized cast of that time (the late 1950s). It is also a very interesting and mind-grasping historically- based film, and although its all in Polish with English subtitles and is in black and white, I can honestly say I never got bored watching it. I cant say I thought any differently about the film after I watched it than before because I didn't really know what to expect from it, but it didn't contain as much action as I thought it would, as I expected more fighting due to the time period, all though it occurred after the war and the uprising.

  60. Watching "The Thin Red Line" is like being sucker punched in the gut . It's really emotional . Expecially of your like me and you get attached to characters too easy . it's a little slow , and hard to understand what's going on at first , but once you get into it, it's really good . Honestly , the connection of Private Witts pre-war life and his war life got me every time.
He would hear or see something that reminded him of his wife and then he'd have a flashback and it was actually really sad . But still great ! Just really emotional....
The movie didn't really change my opinion on anything , I gues the only thing i can say is that I knew things were bad , I just didn't realize how bad ... This movie is very graphic ..
But other than that I still think war is unnessecary and gross.

  61. I would recommend "The Dirty Dozen" to others. It's a very good film that tells a war story in a way that is easy to watch and it doesn't completely break your heart to watch, as many war movies do. It provides comic relief and is about an interesting subject. In this film, what inspired me was how even though everyone was looking out for each other, they could move on and carry out their orders, and that is not easy for anyone. What this film taught me was that even tough the men in the movie were prisoners, they still cared about their duty and it shows how even though the Major was in charge of all of them when they got out of hand, he didnt really look down on them as much as other war movies show the people in charge actually looking down on the individuals. so that was a different viewing experience for me.

  63. I would recommend the movie only if you wanted to know what led up to what happened but also to see what went wrong. Other then that I really didn't feel inspired. I would change all the scenes that dealt with Mrs. Von Stauffenberg. To me she just wasn't that important.

  65. Though already popular, I would be sure to recommend my movie The Diary of Anne Frank to those who haven't heard the story. The film is pretty accurate in displaying the truth as well, showing the struggles of what it was like to be in hiding during the holocaust through the voice of a young girl who experienced it herself. George Stevens does a fantastic job of telling this classic and important story. Throughout the years, this inspiring tale has touched the hearts of so many different people all over the world.

  68. I would definitely recommend "The Boy in The Striped pajamas" to everyone. I was inspired by how strong all of the Jewish people were when they went to concentration camps. The movie also showed me how the people who thought they knew what was happening in these camps actually knew very little. Even Bruno's mother, who was married to the Nazi in charge of the camp, didn't know what was fully going on inside of the concentration camp.

  69. I would recommend the film Schindler’s List to others (because of how eye-opening it is) with extreme caution (concerning how horrifically the Holocaust was portrayed in this film). I believe it is something everyone should see once they reach a certain maturity level. This film portrays the tragedies of the Holocaust in a very real way. Another reason everyone should watch this work of art is because it shows a selfish character change into a selfless person who spent his entire fortune to save hundreds of lives. If it were not for Schindler, the thousands of people who can now trace their roots back to “Schindler’s Jews” would not exist. I find the change in the title character the most inspiring part of the movie. Although I had no influence of the events of the Holocaust I felt ashamed to be part German after watching this film. I am inspired and determined to preserve peace and justice.

  70. I would recommend this film to people because if they want to watch a film on how even Nazi Germans didn't even like Hitler then this is the film because it shows how a Nazi is trying to assassinate Hitler

  71. I would definitely recommend "Catch 22" to everyone! This film inspired me because you are completely drawn into a different time and place and you see the dark humor in a sad topic. Basically, you watch everyone slowly go crazy because they are stuck in a "loop" or a "catch 22". Here's the catch: To be a bombardier you have to be sane. But to want to be one would be insane. If you think you are insane then you are sane to be able to make that diagnosis. In other words- you can't get out of it. In the movie you see how different types of people cope with this situation. It makes you have even more sympathy for these people. You see their mental trauma.

  72. Now, unless I view a film that applies to all audiences, then I generally won't recommend it to others. Patton is a specific type of film that you would only recommend to someone who you knew enjoyed war movies. But if I know anyone who enjoys war movies, I would gladly recommend it to them. The speech of Patton's apology was quite inspiring to me. It showed that no matter how badly you screw up, you can always be forgiven if you truly are sorry and can make amends. Yes, seeing my film did change my perspective on life. However it was in a way in which i can't describe, it was more of a a subconscious change.

  73. I would recommend my film, The Best Years of Our Lives, to others. It told a fascinating story, while teaching a lot about soldiers mental state, with surprising accuracy, after returning from the war. This movie changed my opinions on the way I see veterans. This is because it made me truly realize all the problems that they face and that they are just people as well.

  74. I would recommend the film "Emperor" because it portrays the events that happened in Japan while still adding some romance in it to make it more interesting and overall it is a great movie!

  75. I would recommend my movie to people as long as they were okay with movies that don't have much action. A fair amount of "Fat Man and Little Boy" is just old white guys standing around talking, so if you are alright with movies like that, this movie would be great for you. Personally, I need a bit more action in a movie in order to keep me entertained. That being said, the sections of the movie that dealt more with the science behind the bombs (these parts also tended to have more action and suspense) were absolutely fascinating. The story itself is interesting, but the way it is told in the movie can be very tedious. The scientists' intelligence and willingness to collaborate really inspired me. Watching the story of science's greatest minds coming together to create an incredible new machine was very interesting and inspiring. Seeing the physical dangers and the moral dilemmas that the scientists' faced helped me to think differently about the Manhattan Project. Since this group of scientists' did create a weapon which helped to end the war but killed thousands of people in the process, it is easy to either view them as amazing heroes or terrible villains. However, this movie forces you to see the scientists as real people who's motives behind participating in the Manhattan Project were very complex.

  76. I wouldn't reccomend it to others because I personally didnt find it that interesting. It did make me realize how personal the bombing was to normal, everyday civilivans and how it effected their lives.

  77. Yes, i would recommend this film to others. The film inspired me to not be ashamed of my actions even though those around me shame me for them and if I explain myself, a lot of those actions that I feel ashamed for make sense.

  79. I would recommend the film I watched, 'Hangmen Also Die!', to anyone interested in killing two hours with a fascinating, if sometimes slow-paced, Nazi-resistanced-themed escape movie with a couple's conflict sub-plot. The characters in the film did have inspiring morals in their role in the story. For one, Nasha Novotny's determination to rescue her father at all costs, and her fathers dedication to his daughter's better life showed us how important family ties are in dire situations. At one point in the film hundreds of bystanders are rounded up and shot because one man has not been found. This will always make me think differently about how ruthless people can be when spurred on by anger.

  80. Yes, I would most definitely recommend my movie to others. It is a very entertaining movie, and actually kind of funny. My movie inspired me to learn more about the war. It showed me that everything that happened in the war is very interesting. I say this because the U.S and British soldiers invading Sicily is not something you think would be exciting to learn about. It sounds basic and as if not much happened. However, watching my movie I realized that not much happened but everything that happened in the war is important. The troops invading Sicily were the training wheels on a bike. It just was a starting point. Because later on, they actually invade the mainland. Honestly, nothing in the movie made me think differently about it after watching it. I expected it to be somewhat funny, and entertaining but also filled with facts.

  81. The film Attack is not a film I would recommend to others unless they are looking for a movie with good leadership. In this film, I enjoyed seeing the many ways they showed leadership in everything they did. Even through the disagreements there was great leadership throughout all of the men. Before I watched this movie I knew everyone that fought in war had to have some kind of leadership but I didn't realize how many ways there were to express leadership.

  82. I would not recommend this film to others. It is nerve wracking, but in the sense that it doesn’t reward you at the end: the characters die. It’s almost like the moral of the story is, “Teamwork will save you- not really.” The message of the film inspired me at first, as well as the symbolism of the two men stranded on an island. Nothing about the film changed the way I thought about World War II.

  84. Before my movie I did not really know any details of the small resistance groups. After watching my movie it just reminded me of events that aren't in standard textbooks or people who aren't classroom heroes. That's why I recommend everyone seeing Sophie Scholl: The Final Days. This film was so interesting throughout and made so beautifully so I had no problem being drawn into it. This film just inspires me to speak my mind even if its not "the norm" or accepted right now because it is so important to put your thoughts and ideas into the world.

  85. I would definitely recommend my film to others. It very thoroughly captures the hardships of WWII. There really was no one distinguishable part that stuck out to me. The part in the movie were the group is in the sewers made me change some of my views on WWII.

  88. I would definately recommend The Imitation Game to my peers. The story of Alan's life and work, and how he and his colleagues broke Enigma inspires me. There is not really any part that makes me think differently, actually.

  89. I would recommend to others to watch the film I chose, "To Hell And Back".I believe that Audie Murphy is a role model. Just from it being a WWII movie, I believe watching the movie would inspire you to want to help others around you more often. He had a lot of confidence for saving lives and by him having as much confidence could build someone else's confidence level for helping people that could lead them to be successful, just like Audie Murphy. I,m sure he is well remembered until this day.

  90. I would most definitely recommend the film my work is based off of because it has such a different point of view than most would be used to seeing in a film. Seeing The Wind Rises made me see how sometimes people are put into situations they can't really change like it's no big deal. The main character, Jiro, had a passion for aircraft and loved to design them, but that doesn't mean he enjoyed creating weapons used for destruction, which is something I think people tend to overlook or ignore.

  91. I would recommend Kelly's Heroes to anyone because it has the lightness of a fictional comedy and yet holds historical accuracy. The characters and timing of jokes is superb and will have you laughing and wondering what will happen next. This movie did male me realise how difficult communication must have been in that time though and make the struggle real.

  92. I would recommend Father Goose, because it is a fictional comedy and it has some true aspects to it. This film didn't really inspire me it was just funny and enjoyable to watch. This movie made me realize how fast they had to come up with a plan in the midst of being attached.

  93. I would definitely recommend “Swing Kids” to others. What inspired me about this movie was that it wasn't just adults standing up for what they believe, it was young teens like us who fought back. During the movie, after Peter joined the Hitler Youth, after talking about how much he hated the nazi and anyone who had anything to do with them, it made me realize that kids during WWII had to take on very big responsibilities even if they were not ready for them.
